On week six I finished writing my report about herbal medicine and I submitted to the teacher. This week I start preparing my presentation for next week. I start researching information about the topic and practice it at home for several times in front of the mirror so I can present it on Tuesday. I also start putting my journals in my blog as well as some useful websites. I was very happy last week because my first draft of annotated bibliography was done correctly so I don’t have to worry about the second draft I just have to resubmit it to marsalin on Wednesday. We are going to have our assessment in listening on week nine, the teacher gave us a topic to listen to it and take some notes and present oral report about the topic for approximately six minutes. Because I was busy with my presentation this week I could not start with listening topic this week.

Last week was the most difficult week for me because I start preparing information for my assignment. At beginning I found difficulty with writing annotated bibliography because the idea was not clear in my mined. It took me a lot of time to write the first draft of annotated bibliography still I was not happy with fist draft but later on after more explanation by teacher the idea become very clear. Now I think it is not very difficult as long as I follow the format. At home I practiced to write some more annotated bibliography by following the teacher’s sample that he gave it to us to improve my knowledge about how to write annotated bibliography. I also started to write the first draft of the assignment on the weekend. Writing the assignment was easier than collecting the information. Honestly, I had big headache because of collecting information. First of all, I could not find any book in the TAFE library, secondly when I tried to access to library data I could not open PDF files in my computer. Finally, I went to Auburn library, I found two books about general information of herbal medicine.

This week I was so stressed about the assignment. I looked for books in the library at TAFE; I could not find any book about the topic. On Tuesday I went to auburn council library to search for some books, unfortunately I could not find any books there too. Since last week I have been searching for information about complementary medicine not only in the library but also in the internet, I found some article’s abstract but not full text. It was very difficult to find full text articles online because wherever I searched they asked for subscriptions and it was not free to subscribe with.
Just as we are going to have our presentation very soon about herbal medicine as well, I found some useful information about the particular herb that my presentation will be about. Although I found the information, I need to prepare the speech and practice it before presentation day.
Last Friday we had assessment in computing class about computer theory which we learnt last two weeks ago. It was the first assessment for us in this semester.

After week four of the course, now we are getting busier with study. I spend a lot of time with the exercises about the clause and connecting words. They were very useful for me, I gained some background knowledge about how to build the sentences in a proper way furthermore; I had learnt how to construct the paragraphs. As we starting to write our first assignment I start to search for information about the topic that we are going to write about (herbal medicine). Actually I’m very interested about this topic therefore, I want to go deeply into it and have some idea about it because, I want to know how does the herb can be use as a medicine.
This course is very valuable course to learn English; I wish I had this course before five years ago. I can sense that day after day my English is improving and my writing ability is increasing. I believe that my English level in the end of this course hopefully would enable me to study in the university.

After the second week of the course we start to do some home works in each subject. I started to follow my plan that I planed for my study. This week I had some difficulties with understanding a new topic about inductive and deductive writing, I read the examples that were given in a book for many times to analyse the distinctions between them, it was not very clear at the beginning, then became more clear later on when the teacher clarified it in the class by giving examples in more details. After the idea became clear in my mind, I tried to read some academic writing about different topics and find out whether it is inductive or deductive. That was my learning strategy that I had used to overcome the difficulties of learning. As our teacher recommended us to learn some new vocabularies, I started to learn the vocabularies and their meanings also put them in the sentences which I think it was a fantastic idea to improve my academic writing.

Into regards of a computing lesson, I learnt very good information about how to find the special features of my computer and how to download the latest version of the windows in to my computer.

I also enjoyed learning a note taking in the listening class as well as a prediction skill while listening to the lecture.

Journal one

Tow weeks ago, we started the EAP course at Granville TAFE. This course as we know is a very intensive course. It requires concentration as well as punctuality, and also organizing our time. At the beginning of this course I made a plan that can suit me. As a mother, I need some time for my family and my children as well as the study. Therefore, I put in my plan two hours for my study every day plus weekend. I start doing my daily home work every day after 8 o’clock at night when my children are sleeping, which I think it is the best time for me to do my home work when every where is quite. What I personally think is that it is important to make a plan before starting any thing, such as study or any thing else. I found this very useful for me, perhaps for everyone. The second important part is to design a learning strategy for ourselves for example, my learning strategy that I depend on is reviewing my knowledge that I learnt at class when I come home. Once I revise my knowledge, the idea will become clearer and easily understandable. If I have difficulty of understanding, would rather analyse it in my own way before asking for help but, if I found it very difficult then, I will ask the teacher for more clarification. From the beginning of this course until now, I did not find any difficulty; I hope it will continue to the end of this course.
